When manufacturers think about a new inspection system, attention typically goes to the cameras, the software and the detection accuracy. Understandable. But in practice we see that handling — the way products are presented to the inspection position — is more often the bottleneck than the vision technology itself.
Cameras, lighting and algorithms can be excellent — but if the product is not stationary, not facing the right way or not arriving in front of the camera at the right moment, that produces an unreliable image. At production speeds of hundreds to more than a thousand parts per minute, the timing of every product is critical. Our handling systems are designed to guarantee this: consistently, at high speed, without product damage.
In cleanroom environments, the handling must not be a source of contamination. That means choices in materials, lubricants, seals and particle emission. We design our handling components specifically for cleanroom applications — that is not something you can retrofit onto a standard mechanism after the fact.
When the handling comes from a different party than the inspection system, the interface between the two becomes a risk factor. Who is responsible when the timing is slightly off? Who solves it when the handling disrupts the image? At Simac Masic we design handling and inspection as one integrated system. That gives one point of contact, one responsibility and a system that is optimised as a whole.
