Machine vision and inspection

Reliably seeing what the human eye misses. That is the core of machine vision, and the foundation of everything we do.

Machine vision is the technology that automatically inspects products visually: using cameras, lighting and software that analyse images and detect deviations. Faster, more consistent and more accurate than manual inspection can ever be. For manufacturers who have no room for errors, machine vision is not a luxury. It is the backbone of quality control.

At Simac Masic, machine vision our core trade. We select and configure camera systems, design the lighting and develop inspection algorithms entirely in-house. That combination, the eye, the light and the judgement, determines whether an inspection system truly works.

What machine vision entails

Machine vision is more than a camera taking photos. A good inspection system consists of three inseparable layers:

Lighting

Lighting is the most underestimated factor in machine vision. The right light direction, colour temperature and technique, coaxial, dark field, backlighting or structured light, determines whether a defect becomes visible or remains hidden. We design lighting setups entirely to order. That is not standard work.

Imaging

The quality of an inspection starts with the quality of the image. We select camera systems based on resolution, speed and sensitivity, matched to the product and the required detection accuracy. We choose from line scan cameras, matrix cameras and endoscopic systems, depending on what the inspection challenge demands.

Image analysis

Every image captured by a camera is assessed by our inspection software. That software uses a combination of classical image processing techniques and modern AI algorithms to classify, measure and report deviations. This results in an objective, repeatable verdict on every individual product.

What we detect

Our systems have been deployed for the detection of, among others:

  • Surface defects: cracks, scratches, pits, bumps, discolouration
  • Dimensional deviations: dimensions, tolerances, deformations
  • Contamination: particles, stains, foreign materials
  • Completeness: missing components, incorrect assembly
  • Coatings and labels: presence, position, legibility
  • Specific pharmaceutical defects: lamination, flash, underfill

Why Simac Masic?

We are not a reseller of camera systems. We are a system builder that masters machine vision as a discipline. That means we make the right technology choices for your specific situation, not the most common ones. Our engineers know the limitations of every technique. They know when a matrix camera outperforms a line scanner, when backlighting is the only answer, and when AI adds value over classical algorithms. That knowledge built up over more than thirty years of inspection projects, is what turns a system that works into one that keeps working. More than fifteen years of experience in image analysis. Everything in-house. One team responsible for the end result.
